A musical performance and lecture presentation touching on the lives and work of women who wrote, performed and influenced the world of classical music will be given by local author Dr. Anne Gray on Saturday October 4 at 2pm in the newly refurbished auditorium at the historic downtown YWCA at 10th & C Streets.
One in a series of Authors’ Salons, this event will include performances by Dr. Gray on piano and her son Adrian on violin. Works by Florence Price and Lili Boulanger will be discussed and performed.
Dr. Gray's landmark book “The World of Women in Classical Music, 15 years in the making, weighs in at 12 pounds and was nominated for a Pulitzer Prize in 1998. It has been described as the “penultimate collection of information on the subject of women in music”. Photo of the book cover can be seen below.
Dr. Gray, a lively presenter and accomplished musician and writer, is a resident of La Jolla, a member of the AAUW, the Mu Phi Epsilon music fraternity's ACME honor society, and the International Alliance of Women in Music, among other notable organizations.
Music students, teachers and lovers are encouraged to attend. A small donation is encouraged which goes to support the on-going educational work of the San Diego Women’s History Museum and Educational Center. Refreshments will be served.
