What is the event about?
The Annual San Diego County Women's Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony and Reception honors women who have positively impacted San Diego County and the people who live here. Nominated by the community, six women will be recognized for their achievements and inducted into the San Diego County Women's Hall of Fame on Sunday, March 18th at 2:30 P.M. at the Joe and Vi Jacobs Center Celebration Room located at 404 Euclid Ave, San Diego, CA 92114
The honorees chosen represent and reflect the full depth of the diversity of San Diego County. Awards are granted on the basis of values, empowerment, activism, trailblazing, cultural competency, and historical preservation.
Nellie Andrade Empowerer
Nellie Andrade is best known for building coalitions of understanding and community pride in the Latino community. In 1996 she founded MANA San Diego, the largest chapter of the national Latonia organization. Nellie believes that the key to success and empowerment for any person is education.
Janice Martinelli Historian
Janice Martinelli is being honored for her historic perseveration efforts and renovations of Victorian era homes in San Diego into locally and nationally recognized historic sites. She has served as the National City Historical Society president for the past 12 years and has established the Junior Victorian Club.
Jerrilyn Malana Trailblazer
Jerrilyn Malana has dedicated her life to serving others and is active around issues of diversity, inclusion and social justice. She is the past president of the San Diego County bar association and past president of Pan Asian Lawyers of San Diego.
Fahari Jeffers Activist
Fahari Jeffers is a labor leader who is best known for her role in founding the United Domestic Workers of America. The labor organization she co-founded was the third union in United States history founded by people of color.
Carol Jahnkow Bridge Builder
Carol Jahnkow has been involved in many peace and social justice issues on the local, national, and international level. For 29 years she was the Executive Director of the Peace Resource Center of San Diego and was awarded the 2005 Global Awareness Award in recognition for the center’s work by the San Diego Peace Corps Association.
