“¡Viva el Mariachi Femenil!  1903 - 2013

Join us at the Women’s Museum of California in proclaiming and celebrating the history of women who broke barriers to influence the mariachi music tradition in both Mexico and the United States. Curated by Dr. Leonor Perez, this exhibit unveils nearly 15 years of research, photographs, documents, artifacts , videos and personal interviews that uncover the stories, challenges, and achievements of pioneering female mariachi musicians from 1903 to today.

A grand finale concert will be held at Liberty Station on Sunday October 13, 2013 at 2:00pm featuring Mariachi Mujer 2000, Trio Ellas (Latin Grammy nominees), Mariachi de Uclatlan, and an all star mariachi group composed of women who have influenced the role of women in mariachi music.
