The Older Women's League

News

Founded in 1980, OWL is the only national grassroots membership organization with a focus on the issues which are unique to American women as we age.

OWL Changing Lives

Through groundbreaking reports and studies, testimony before Congress, national grassroots campaigns, powerful public education programs, and coalition work with other organizations, OWL is demonstrating that midlife and older women's needs are the needs of a just and caring society. By speaking on their own behalf OWL members are making important and lasting improvements in midlife and older women's lives.

Current Efforts

  • There have been monthly calls from National updating us on the Health Care bills in congress. OWL has been represented on this issue at many important meetings in Washington. Senator Sanders mentioned OWL's support for his Single Payer amendment in a televised address.
  • OWL of California has been working with other groups to have legislation addressing elder economic standards in our state. AB 324 (Beal-San Jose) "Elder Economic Dignity Act of 2009" would require the State of California to use the Elder Economic Security Standard INdex to provide a better measure of poverty in planninng for the needs of California's growing aging population.
